Eora Crossing

Eora Crossing is where two worlds first meet – the Eora Aboriginal people and the first white settlers.  This spectacular outdoor performance was originally made on the site of Sydney’s First Government House.

Directed by Wesley Enoch, Eora Crossing combines indigenous dance and storytelling with fast-paced acrobatics.  The show introduces new aerial technologies for the lateral traversing of walls, enabling the performers to traverse vast distances, as metaphor for the historical journey of connection and disconnection.

First performed for the Sydney Festival Free Outdoor Program 2004, and made in partnership with the Museum of Sydney.

Eora Crossing’s very specific relationship to the site means the show may not be suited to remounting or touring in a conventional sense.  However, the new aerial technologies and choreography may be adapted for use anywhere, enabling us to create a new show exploring a chosen site’s social meanings, relatively cost-effectively.
