Rowan’s national and international professional experience includes performing, choreographing and directing productions that range from large scale aerial works on the sides of buildings to intimate works of theatre.
He has performed extensively with Australia’s leading physical theatre company Legs on the Wall. Highlights include Eora Crossing (Sydney Festival), Flying Blind (Canada/Australia international co-production), Homeland (Berlin), Runner’s Up, Clearance, On The Case (Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Cultural Festival & Dublin Theatre Festival), Tranny Boy, Cloak of Feathers, and an aerial performance for the VISA corporate lounge at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Other performing credits include Settlement (CIE SOIT/Hans Van Den Broeck) and Love Drunk (Phunktional Dance Theatre). Movement direction and choreography credits include Flying Blind (for which he received a Canadian Dr. Betty Mitchell Award); short films Together (winner: Certificate of Distinction 2004 American Dance Film Festival) and Shadow Play (selected: St Kilda Film Festival, Melbourne); Post-Try Celebration (Toohey’s New TVC); The Extinction Project (Brink Productions); and One More Than One (Atypical Theatre Company). He has also choreographed creative developments for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony, and Where We Keep Our Dreams (The Flying Fruit Fly Circus/Strange Fruit). Directorial credits include Together & Bubble (Downstairs Belvoir St Theatre); Telstra Next IP Launch (Jack Morton Worldwide); and an aerial performance for Rotary International Conference ’03 (George P Johnson). In 2008 Rowan directed Legs on the Wall’s newest full-length production – an adaptation of his show Bubble – at the Sydney Opera House.
